I don't think ive replied to this yet..
A few things:

No new rank

Force citizen when requirements are met (just like rsd), I believe if more 'good' players had citizen instead of saying 'no I don't want it!', the rank wont be looked on "badly" like it is now.

Demote veterans if they go inactive within X months of getting veteran (3-6?). I believe those that just get veteran, then quit shortly after do not deserve it, but if they get veteran, play for a year or so, then go inactive, they should keep the rank.

This has been a discussion for over a year now lol...

Just throwing it out there that many vtns join back for a short time mostly because of donor chat... If they get that taken away, they'll be more likely to stay away from the server.

This is a very good suggestion. More good players representing the rank might change the "bad reputation" that a few past players have given it.

No offense, but that sounds more like they're just using zerg, and hindering future server upgrades, to just want the rank for free donor chat.
If that was their reason to get veteran, doesn't sound like veteran material tbh, I would say good riddance.

I partially agree with masy on this, If a veteran plays for a while after getting veteran, then fades away, they will be more likely to come back (or even just pop in every once in a while) if they aren't demoted. Not everyone can donate as easily as you can shady.

Same if they get vtn then quit right away, but in that case demote them anyway.

I didn't say they could, or that they were required to donate. I said if free donor chat was the reason they wanted veteran rank, they don't sound like veteran material. As in once they get the rank, they may decide they don't need to continue to full fill the requirements (active, helpful, etc.).

Its not getting vtn for free donor chat, its getting vtn for the reasons you get vtn and playing a while. If you go inactive, being able to pop in and talk some in donor would make you more likely to come back more often, even if just for a little while.

Also, I think a bigger issue is veterans that simply are not good players anymore, ie greif people, etc.
